IYANU Casting
Instructions:
1. Please review the character descriptions below. We highly recommend auditioning for more than one role. (We are also casting ensemble roles that are not included here.)
2. Please self-record the copy for your respective characters. This project will record remotely, so, if possible, please record with the mic and preamp that you would use during your sessions with us.
3. Please submit all recordings as mp3s or m4as.
4. DO NOT SLATE your records. Please just record the text for the respective character for which you are auditioning.
5. Please submit only one take per character. One character per audio file.

Role #1: Iyanu
Lead. Female. Age 13-16. (Can be played by an actual teenager or someone older who sounds like a teenager.) African or African-American. Character speaks English with a Nigerian (Yoruba) accent. VO artist must also be able to speak or learn some Yoruba.
As a young warrior-in-training, Iyanu spends her days studying Yoruba history and ancient arts, but yearns for a normal life. One day, responding to danger, she unknowingly triggers her divine powers, the likes of which have not been seen since the days of the Divine Ones --The dieties of her people.
Little does Iyanu know that both her parents had divine powers that were passed down to her. In order to protect her from the Fallen One, her parents hid her inside the heart of a sacred tree, where she lay in hibernation for five hundred years, before being discovered by a high priestess.

Role #2: Biyi

Biyi has a talent for getting into trouble, but equally, the gift of the gab for getting out of tight spots. As former heir to the throne of Elu, until Chancellor Nuro staged a coup, Biyi has sworn off drama, living a life of zero responsibility until he meets fellow exile, Iyanu. Accompanying her on her adventure, he might even help her loosen up a bit.

Role #3: Toye

Toye has trained hard to be a soldier, but he won’t ever live up to his father Kanfo’s reputation as the great military commander. Plus, Toye’s secret dream is to be an engineer, not a warrior. Running from the army when he discovers the true nature of his country’s dictatorship, Toye goes it alone until he meets a motley group of kids and a giant black leopard.

Role #4: Olori
Main character. Female. 40s. African or African-American. Character speaks English with a Nigerian (Yoruba) accent. VO artist must also be able to speak or learn some Yoruba.
A High Priestess of the Agoni, keepers of the history and culture of Elu, Olori takes Iyanu as her apprentice, hiding her true identity to protect her from danger. A mentor and mother figure, Olori is also a fierce warrior, versed in the magical arts of the Divine Ones.

Iyanu’s divine powers can help him get there, but they are also the greatest threat to his power. He needs her captured quickly without the King finding out.

Role #7: Kanfo

Kanfo is the fearless military commander of Elu, and Toye’s estranged father. A tough but honorable man, Kanfo is conflicted between his sworn duty to Chancellor Nuro and deep love for his son. As he hunts Iyanu, Kanfo’s quest becomes one to reunite with Toye as he turns from enemy to ally.
